Stop the Smears Against Obama

The FOX smears are continuing and we need to stop them from spreading to the rest of the media. Watch FOX's laughably inaccurate distortions, as they smear Barack Obama on everything from the economy to race to patriotism to flag pins.

In the coming weeks, FOX will escalate its gross misrepresentations of Obama, and we know from painful past experience that some in the corporate media will spread FOX's canards by presenting them as fact. We must stop the spread.

Own a piece of this campaign

We're within reach of an unprecedented goal ... 2,000,000 individual people owning a piece of this campaign.

Meanwhile, John McCain and the Republican National Committee are trying to convince you that you've been swept up and tricked into wanting change. They want you to believe that we need to stay the course and elect someone who's voted with George Bush 95% of the time. To sell this ridiculous idea, McCain and the RNC are using huge checks from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs to spread the smear that Barack is just a "celebrity" and that our grassroots movement is just a bunch of mindless fans.

Help fight back against McCain's negative attacks and reach this historic goal.

Glendale Democratic Club commends Articles of Impeachment

The Glendale Democratic Club commends Representative Dennis Kucinich of Ohio who introduced 35 Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush. The club also supports a full hearing of those articles by the House Judiciary Committee as well as impeaching Bush by the entire House of Representatives and convicting Bush by the Senate.

While no members of the club really expect this process to reach a satisfactory conclusion in Congress before Bush leaves office next January, the consensus of members who spoke on the subject was that our action is still important. We must let the media and our elected legislators know Representative Kucinch's action has broad support among the American people. We must let them know that we will not tolerate the crimes of the Bush administration in the future, and we will expect our Presidents to abide by their oaths of office, our laws, and our constitution.

Tell Wal-Mart to Stop Intimidating its Workers

You have to read this front-page story from today's Wall Street Journal.  According to the article, Wal-Mart is holding mandatory meetings with supervisors and managers to warn them that if Senator Obama wins the presidential election, Democrats will pass the Employee Free Choice Act to unionize their stores.

Why is Wal-Mart so worried?  Because workers who have the power to stand up to their employers have higher wages, better health care, and fairer work places.  You and I both know that Wal-Mart will do anything to get out of treating its employees with the dignity and respect they deserve. Tell Wal-Mart to stop its intimidating its workers and encouraging them to vote against Senator Obama.

Stop Arnold

Have you heard the news that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to slash the wages of 200,000 state workers to the federal minimum wage? Not California's minimum wage of $8 per hour. The federal minimum wage of $6.55. Six dollars and fifty-five cents an hour.

This is absolutely outrageous. And the only way we can stop Arnold is by raising our voices as loud as possible in protest before 9 a.m. on Monday. Please sign The Courage Campaign's petition to Governor Schwarzenegger. On Monday morning, they'll deliver thousands of your signatures to the Governor's office.

Send Karl Rove to Jail

All we have to do is pressure the 40 members of the House Judiciary Committee, make them hold Rove in contempt and send him to jail. We've never had such a direct opportunity to hold Rove accountable. No, this is not enough punishment for his years and years of crimes, but it's a huge start, and will send a very clear message to the entire Bush administration.

Robert Greenwald and the Brave New Team put together this video to explain the issues surrounding Rove's failure to testify before Congress, and why Rove should be held in contempt and sent to jail. Check out Send Karl Rove to Jail, and sign the petition to ensure that the HJC holds Rove in contempt.

Tell the U.N. Security Council - it's time to keep its word

On July 31, 2007, the U.N. Security Council authorized 19,000 additional peacekeepers to help stop the violence in Darfur. One year later, barely 2,000 have arrived, and those that have arrived lack the equipment they need to protect themselves, let alone Darfuri civilians.

A Security Council resolution is useless without concrete action from the U.N. and the leaders of the nations who lead it. It is outrageous that the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council - China, Russia, France, the U.K., and the U.S. - cannot produce the political will, a few hundred trucks, or even just 24 helicopters to end the brutal genocide. This is a failure of will, plain and simple. The world promised Darfur protection but has failed to deliver it.

Since January alone, 190,000 Darfuris have been displaced and driven from their homes. How many more deaths and displaced people will it take before the world community provides real security? Send these world leaders a strong message: stop the foot-dragging and keep your moral obligation to bring peace and security to Darfur.

Say no to Bush's offshore drilling

Recently, running contrary to every shred of common sense, President Bush lifted the presidential moratorium on drilling for oil off our precious coastline -- a moratorium his own father put in place.  And now he wants Congress to lift the moratorium as well. It's unbelievable.  In the final months of his failed presidency, George Bush wants to give the oil companies a huge gift that threatens our coasts, our economy, and our jobs -- while not doing one single thing to lower gas prices.

Senator Barbara Boxer is standing up against opening our sensitive offshore areas to drilling because the impact of any new drilling won't have any effect on gas prices.  It will also put our coastal environment at risk.  Join us and add your name to Barbara's petition, urging Congress not to lift the moratorium on offshore drilling.
