Send Karl Rove to Jail

All we have to do is pressure the 40 members of the House Judiciary Committee, make them hold Rove in contempt and send him to jail. We've never had such a direct opportunity to hold Rove accountable. No, this is not enough punishment for his years and years of crimes, but it's a huge start, and will send a very clear message to the entire Bush administration.

Robert Greenwald and the Brave New Team put together this video to explain the issues surrounding Rove's failure to testify before Congress, and why Rove should be held in contempt and sent to jail. Check out Send Karl Rove to Jail, and sign the petition to ensure that the HJC holds Rove in contempt.

Tell the U.N. Security Council - it's time to keep its word

On July 31, 2007, the U.N. Security Council authorized 19,000 additional peacekeepers to help stop the violence in Darfur. One year later, barely 2,000 have arrived, and those that have arrived lack the equipment they need to protect themselves, let alone Darfuri civilians.

A Security Council resolution is useless without concrete action from the U.N. and the leaders of the nations who lead it. It is outrageous that the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council - China, Russia, France, the U.K., and the U.S. - cannot produce the political will, a few hundred trucks, or even just 24 helicopters to end the brutal genocide. This is a failure of will, plain and simple. The world promised Darfur protection but has failed to deliver it.

Since January alone, 190,000 Darfuris have been displaced and driven from their homes. How many more deaths and displaced people will it take before the world community provides real security? Send these world leaders a strong message: stop the foot-dragging and keep your moral obligation to bring peace and security to Darfur.

Say no to Bush's offshore drilling

Recently, running contrary to every shred of common sense, President Bush lifted the presidential moratorium on drilling for oil off our precious coastline -- a moratorium his own father put in place.  And now he wants Congress to lift the moratorium as well. It's unbelievable.  In the final months of his failed presidency, George Bush wants to give the oil companies a huge gift that threatens our coasts, our economy, and our jobs -- while not doing one single thing to lower gas prices.

Senator Barbara Boxer is standing up against opening our sensitive offshore areas to drilling because the impact of any new drilling won't have any effect on gas prices.  It will also put our coastal environment at risk.  Join us and add your name to Barbara's petition, urging Congress not to lift the moratorium on offshore drilling.

Thank Senator Boxer ... but scold Senator Feinstein

There was some terrible news out of D.C. on July 9th: sixty-nine senators voted to gut the Fourth Amendment.  They voted to hand President Bush the power to spy on Americans without warrants, and to immunize the telecoms who allegedly helped him break the law in the past.

So why does a president with the lowest approval ratings since the advent of polling have the power to eviscerate the Constitution?  Because Senator Feinstein gave it to him.  At the signing ceremony in the Rose Garden, President Bush paid "special tribute" (his words) to Democrats like Steny Hoyer, Jay Rockefeller, and Silvestre Reyes for helping to pass the bill.

No wonder the Associated Press headline following the bill's passage read, "Senate bows to Bush."

But there was some good news, too: twenty-eight senators -- including Senator Boxer -- stood up for the Constitution and for the civil liberties of all Americans.  By voting "no" on the FISA Amendments Act of 2008, these courageous senators sent a message to President Bush: Some of us are still willing to do what is right instead of settling for what is easy.

Sorry FOX, we won't let you trash Michelle Obama

You're not going to believe what FOX is up to now-we could hardly believe it ourselves.  Not only are they smearing Michelle Obama with racist stereotypes, but then they offer a feeble apology that they believe gives them the right to slander her again.  That's what happened when FOX called Michelle and Barack Obama's fist bump a "terrorist fist jab," apologized, and then less than a week later referred to Michelle Obama as Barack's "Baby Mama."

FOX's long history of racism is nothing new, but it has been particularly egregious when it comes to their coverage of the Obamas.  Racism and fearmongering have no place in our country or its politics, despite what FOX would have you believe.  That's why Robert Greenwald and the Brave New Team put together this video, "FOX Attacks Michelle Obama".

Barack Obama to deliver acceptance speech at public venue

At the Democratic National Convention next month, we're going to kick off the general election with an event that opens up the political process the same way we've opened it up throughout this campaign.

Barack Obama has made it clear that this is your convention, not his.  On Thursday, August 28th, he's scheduled to formally accept the Democratic nomination in a speech at the convention hall in front of the assembled delegates.  Instead, the convention will move to an outdoor stadium where Barack will join more than 75,000 people for a huge, free, open-air event and deliver his acceptance speech to the American people.

Stand with the Constitution

Senator Feingold needs our help to stop the FISA "compromise" bill.  Please read a message he sent to Jim Dean, Chair of Democracy For America, and then sign DFA's Senate Petition to Stop Telecom Immunity.  They will deliver the petitions to every Senator on Tuesday morning, right before the expected vote.

On this July 4, lets not undo what the Founding Fathers worked so hard to achieve.  Let's make sure they get our message loud and clear.

FOX smears Obama

FOX's smears against Obama are out of control.  First, a paid FOX commentator accidentally confused Obama with Osama and then joked on the air about killing Obama.  Next, a FOX anchor said a playful fist pound by Barack and Michelle Obama could be a terrorist fist jab. (Seriously!)  And then, FOX called Michelle Obama "Obama's baby mama" ... slang used to describe the unmarried mother of a man's child, and a clear attempt to associate the Obamas with negative stereotypes about black people.

Nearly 100,000 folks have signed a petition that will be delivered to FOX.  Can you sign too? The more names, the bigger the impact.

Expose Representative David Dreier's double talk

Not a lot of people know this, but Representative David Dreier has voted with President Bush 93.6% of the time, yet he has carefully crafted a "moderate" persona that is completely at odds with the reality of his record.  The Courage Campaign will be launching a campaign soon to take on Dreier's double talk and needs 1,000 people to show their support ASAP.

Glendale Democratic Club commends Articles of Impeachment

The Glendale Democratic Club commends Representative Dennis Kucinich of Ohio who introduced 35 Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush. The club also supports a full hearing of those articles by the House Judiciary Committee as well as impeaching Bush by the entire House of Representatives and convicting Bush by the Senate.

While no members of the club really expect this process to reach a satisfactory conclusion in Congress before Bush leaves office next January, the consensus of members who spoke on the subject was that our action is still important. We must let the media and our elected legislators know Representative Kucinch's action has broad support among the American people. We must let them know that we will not tolerate the crimes of the Bush administration in the future, and we will expect our Presidents to abide by their oaths of office, our laws, and our constitution.
