Take Back The Water Cooler

We’ve taken back The House of Representatives. We’ve taken back The Senate. We’ve even taken back The White House but we still need to take back The Water Cooler.
The Water Cooler is a common metaphor for conversions that occur in offices around the country. There’s an unwritten rule that no one talks politics. Unfortunately, dittoheads ignore this rule and nobody stops them. Consequently, the sound bites of the right wing talk show hate mongers are bombarded at the rest of us whether or not we choose to listen to talk radio.
Two things are obvious to those of us who must listen to blathering dittoheads. First, they believe that by getting all their information from right wing talk radio, they are more astute regarding what is happening in the world. Secondly, they all say the same things. No, they don’t just utter the same stuff but in their own way. They spew out the exact same sound bites ... word for word.
What do you think would have happened if it had been Bill Clinton who had started the Iraq War? Do you think Limbaugh, Hannity, and Coulter would have supported it? You know the answer. Furthermore, you know that those blathering dittoheads would not have supported it either.
If you never read George Orwell’s 1984, you should pick up a copy and read it. It’s a story of a population which believes government propaganda no matter how irrational or contradictory it is. If you have read 1984, you have already noticed a strange similarity to dittoheads. They are people who believe Rush Limbaugh’s propaganda, no matter how irrational or contradictory it is.
The self-applied title of dittohead (they came up with that term, not me) means that they automatically "ditto" anything Rush Limbaugh says.
It is frightening to see that our elected officials are afraid of these brain-washed dittoheads ... but are we any better? Martin Luther King said it best when he said, "We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people." Today, it is our appalling silence which gives the dittoheads the only political voice at The Water Cooler.
The best thing we can do for our country is to show courage and confront these brain-washed bigots. If they talk politics then we can talk politics. If we lose a friend, we must ask ourselves if that friendship is really that important. Is that friendship more important than doing our part to take back our country from the right wing junta which has done so much damage for the past 30 years?
You may actually be surprised, but the usual result when you confront them is that they will keep their banter to themselves. They are hardly ever as tough or committed as you think. Furthermore by silencing the right wing echo chamber in your office, you have accomplished an absolutely magnificent deed. Just image how much better our country would be if the dittoheads were silenced at all water coolers!
"Nobody living can ever stop me
As I go walking that freedom highway
Nobody living can make me turn back
This land was made for you and me."
Woody Guthrie
