Why is the Biblical account so different from archaeological accounts?  The story of the Exodus was passed down orally from generation to generation.  Over a period of time, history becomes legend, and then legend becomes myth.
Myths and Legends
Who were Moses and Aaron?  There is no way to know for sure.  However, they were probably real people whose exploits were the basis for legends.  Our best guess is that Moses was a minor member of Egyptian royalty and Aaron was a priest of the outlawed Amarna religion.

Where exactly is the hill country of Canaan?  Why did so many Amarna refugees go there?  The hill country of Canaan is the central highlands of what is now Israel and Palestine.  It was not the only destination for the Amarna refugees but it is where circumstances allowed them to continue their religious practices.
